Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you will find a list of commonly asked questions about our vacation properties. If you have any other questions - please don't hesitate to contact us.

Q: How do I go about making a reservation?
A: Please go to our Reservation Form page to contact us.

Q: What is required to confirm a booking?
A: Please fill out our Reservation Form and let us know which property you are interested in and for which dates. We will email you back as soon as possible to let you know if the property is available and ask you if you would like to make a reservation. If so, we will forward our Rental Agreement to you, which outlines our rates, deposits, and cancellation policy. All reservations require a valid credit card for confirmation.

Q: Is a deposit required?
A: Deposits are required for all bookings. There is a $500 deposit to secure your booking as well as a $250 damage deposit.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Please click on the Reservations tab to find our complete cancellation policy.

Q: What time is check in and check out?
A: Check-In is 4:00 pm (16:00) or later. Checkout is 10:00 am or earlier. These times may be flexible, but only by prior arrangement.

Q: Do we have to clean the house before we leave?
A: We ask that you leave the house tidy and as close to how you found it as possible (ie. dishes clean and dishwasher empty). We do have cleaners arriving shortly after check-out time to clean the house and change the beds, etc.

Q: Smoking or Pets?
A: Outdoors is fine, but not inside.

Q: What sorts of amenities can we expect?
A: All the small wares one expects in a normal kitchen, i.e. cutlery, wine glasses, serving utensils, pots, pans etc. The bedrooms include freshly cleaned linens and pillows with cases. The bathrooms include fresh bath towels and toilet paper.

Q: What sort of amenities do you offer for children or infants?
A: We can arrange for a pack and play (travel cot) if requested, but we ask that you please bring your own specialty items (booster seats, baby monitors, etc).

Q: Do the cottages supply soap and shampoo?
A: No, please bring your own.

Q: Are the houses cleaned daily?
A: Unlike a normal hotel situation, our properties are referred to as "self-catering" facilities. In other words, guests have everything they need to cook, clean and look after themselves. We clean the houses weekly, which usually means before our guests check in and after they check out.

Q: Are there air conditioners in any of the units?
A: No. The breezes coming off the open Atlantic usually do the trick!

Q: Is there telephone access?
A: In many of the properties there is, but not in all of them. Please check the "Amenities" section of the cottage you are interested in.

Q: Is there internet access or cable TV?
A: In many of the properties there is, but there are a few that do not. Please check the "Amenities" section of the cottage you are interested in.

Q: Are there grocery stores nearby? Gas stations? Liquor store?
A: Just 2 minutes down the road in Indian Harbour is a nice convenience store called the Whale's Back (for essentials like bread, milk etc). Full-sized grocery stores can be found 20 minutes away in Tantallon, where you will also find the nearest gas station and liquor store. For Rackets Hall, Lunenburg is a 10 minute drive away and there you will find these amenities.

Q: Will anyone be meeting us when we arrive?
A: No, there will not be anyone to greet you, however we will make sure that you know in advance where you can find the house key to let yourself in.

Q: What kinds of activities are available in the area?
A: Sea kayaking, diving, hiking, whale watching tours, beach combing, cycling, golfing, to name a few. Please look at our Activities & Links page for more information.

Q: Are any of the properties suitable for weddings?
A: No, at the request of the owners, weddings are not permitted at any of these vacation properties.

Q: Is the ocean warm enough for swimming?
A: In July, August and September the ocean water is warm enough to swim in. Depending on weather conditions and currents, some days the water is warmer than others. Wet suits would be recommended for extended time in water for snorkeling or scuba diving.
