Built in the late 1700's, Pepperpot Cottage is one of the oldest oceanfront homesteads remaining on St. Margaret's Bay. Almost completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the views of Paddy's Head Lighthouse - which the locals at one time called "the Pepperpot Lighthouse" - are nothing short of sublime. And what's truly special about this property is the sheer intimacy of the sea. From the huge back deck, you can literally throw a pebble into the water.
Restored from stem to stern, this cozy 2-bedroom fisherman's cottage still looks much the same as it did over two hundred years ago, with rustic wide-plank flooring, exposed beams, and the same jaw-dropping views from almost every window. What little has changed are the modern creature comforts, including high-speed internet, granite kitchen countertops, and brand new appliances (laundry and dishwasher included).
In true Nova Scotia spirit, the open-plan kitchen/dining space is the perfect setting for a proper "kitchen party". The dining table seats six, unless of course you'd rather eat outdoors, overlooking the sea.
Upstairs you'll find two cozy bedrooms, separated by a tasteful 4-piece bathroom with combination tub/shower. The master bedroom, which faces the lighthouse, has a comfortable queen-sized bed, while the second bedroom has two double beds. Both bedrooms enjoy fantastic ocean views.
Outside, the deck spans the entire length of the cottage, and the lawn wraps around the cottage, following the rocky shoreline. Patio furniture and a propane barbeque are there for your enjoyment, whether you want to cook up a seafood meal or simply relax and soak up the scenery.
Pepperpot cottage is suitable for families of four, friends looking for a quiet getaway, or couples looking for the perfect place to enjoy an authentic Nova Scotia seaside experience.
Pepperpot Cottage is located in Indian Harbour, just off Route 333, which is only one hour from the airport, and 45 minutes to downtown Halifax.
The famous fishing village of Peggy's Cove is 10 minutes away. Tantallon, a 15 minute drive, has all the amenities you will need (grocery stores, liquor store, public library, gas stations, movie rentals, take-out restaurants, etc.). However there is a great convenience store nearby as well as several restaurant choices.
